Roots & Buds
Siân Moulder
Siân Moulder is a self-directed artist from South Wales. She lives in Llantwit Major and is a busy mum of 3, wife, gardener, dog and chicken wrangler. She also works in a local primary school 3 days a week. Finding time to spend on her craft can often be a challenge but when she is able to her home studio is her sanctuary of creativity.
Siân has always loved art, and from a very young age would be found with crayons or paintbrush in hand, jumping at the chance to learn any new creative skill. After completing her A-levels however Siân turned down a place at Art College (a slight regret) to pursue a degree and career in Physiotherapy, although she continued pursuing artistic hobbies, such as photography, ceramics and painting. In 2016 Siân took a break from Physiotherapy when she moved to Zambia with her husband and young children. During these 2 years she continued to pursue her artistic endeavours, and wrote and illustrated a children’s book which was published to raise funds for the Lilayi elephant orphanage in Lusaka.
Siân attended a printmaking workshop in 2018 and became hooked on linocut printing. Although she greatly enjoys working with other mediums Siân finds linocut work deeply tangible, authentic and satisfying, it also encourages her to slow down. Linocut art involves drawing an image onto a linoleum block, then carving out the negative spaces to reveal the image which is then inked and transferred on to paper or fabric. She finds inspiration in the natural world, our local landscapes and wildlife, as well as Celtic folklore.
