Project Description

Charlotte Norton Miniatures

Miniature dioramas inspired by the Welsh landscape, created with found objects collected from the coastline.

Charlotte Norton

My passion for creating miniatures developed when I was studying for my degree in Art Practice from the University of South Wales in 2016. My studies focused mainly on constructing three-dimensional landscapes and dioramas formed from recycled materials and found objects.

Charlotte Norton Miniatures

My work is now inspired by the Welsh countryside and coastlines and still incorporates the element of reusing the old and discarded, capturing the familiar in a charming and ethical way. I use a variety of found materials such as reclaimed wood, rusted nails, foliage and driftwood which I collect from local beach in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan. I like the idea that the materials I source become an emulation of the environment in which they are found, each piece of driftwood becoming the landscape and echoing the cliffs and vales on which they are inspired.
